Our goal is to give a "Hand Up" to hard working folks so they can buy decent homes where they can live and raise their families.
Habitat's program includes people from all walks of life giving their time, money and talents to help low income families make home ownership a reality.

TO A REALITY

Women took the initiative in Cumberland County to form this Habitat affiliate. In the Spring of 1996 Church Women United, under the leadership of President June Frazier, voted to become the sponsoring organization.
They instituted a study to determine the need for low income housing in the County.
Organizational advice came from Appalachia Habitat, Robbins, TN. After meeting with other local housing agencies two public meetings were held in April, 1996.
Housing officials, civic officials, and the Habitat
South Central director were invited. A Steering Committee was formed to develop the Charter and Bylaws.
The State of Tennessee approved incorporation in December, 1996. During the next three months committees of volunteers completed 77 action steps.
The new Cumberland County Habitat was approved by HFHI in April, 1997, with June Frazier as the founding president.
Then the work of building houses began. The first house was completed in December, 1998. Houses 2 and 3 were completed in 1999, followed by 4 homes in 2000, with continued growth each year.
The affiliate welcomes partner organizations who sponsor the building of a house with financial contributions and volunteers to help in the actual building.
In 2006, our affiliate also adopted the Habitat Apostles Build Program, which encourages local churches or groups of churches to sponsor a house and help with the building.
This high level of community involvement has helped us build many more houses than we might otherwise have been able to do, and the publicity generated helps reach potential new Habitat families.
Check out our "SCOREBOARD" for current numbers of families who have moved in, as well as families who
have been approved and are currently waiting for a Habitat home to be built for them.
